27th March 2009

Lamp posts now standing erect along south side of extended Village Way.
They are putting the cables in today.
Footpath ready for tarmac.
More excavating.
Strange soil shapes all over the site presumably to mark out where things are going.

20th March 2009

Road widening nearly complete.
I asked one of the workers when the tarmac was arriving and was told 24th March (next Tuesday).
Lamp posts being unloaded presumably for the new road.
Large flat area of chalk very apparent now. Probably the foundation for the coach park.

13th March 2009

This week, I was taking photos alongside the Arsgas photographer.
I may even appear in one of them!
Traffic in and out of Poly Complex now using the new road north of Village Way.
The original Village Way road has had the top removed and this has been put in the big hole.
Sub-base now being put down along the old Village Way road.
Usual midday traffic bedlam due to temporary traffic lights.
Saw our farmer friend again (Peter) who had just ploughed what amounts to about the size of an allotment behind his tractor shed.

6th March 2009

Today I was accosted by Peter, the (ex) farmer.
He told me that he wasn't happy with the temporary traffic lights, as the resulting queues mean that he is losing trade, and there is lots of rotting produce in the back of his shop.
I felt quite sorry for him. I hate to see a grown man cry.
I still won't be buying my half-time apple from him when the stadium is up and running though!
Anyway, the base course of tarmac has been laid on the north side of Village Way. It looks like the M1.
Some top soil has been spread on some of the newly contoured bits.
All hell broke loose at the junction with Falmer Road, due to the pre-mentioned traffic lights.
Lots of action going on on south side of Village Way.
